Who We Are
NYSAFAH is a non-profit association representing the affordable housing industry in New York State. Our principal goal is to promote the development and preservation of affordable housing throughout New York. We seek to address the affordable housing crisis through program, policy and advocacy initiatives, and by working with our partners in government to ensure that affordable housing programs are cost-effective and meet the needs of communities around the State. Through the expertise of our members we develop and promote policies that ensure that the housing financed with city and state subsidies is resilient, cost-effective, and integrated.
We are the nation’s largest affordable housing trade group and played a leading role in establishing the nationwide Council of Independent State Housing Associations (CISHA), which drives critical advocacy work on federal housing policies and housing resources. NYSAFAH is a leading voice on numerous issues of importance to the industry both in New York City and upstate. Along with the New York Housing Conference and Enterprise Community Partners, NYSAFAH formed a Housing Coalition to speak with a unified voice in advocacy of expanded affordable housing for all New Yorkers.
Since its founding in 1998, NYSAFAH has steadily worked to expand and diversify both our membership and activities. This includes original research on housing related topics, NYSAFAH 2G – a committee to engage younger professionals in the industry, and a statewide MWBE initiative to strengthen and increase participation of minority- and women-owned businesses in the affordable housing world.
NYSAFAH organizes two annual conferences and a full slate of networking and educational events statewide.
